STUDIOOSS Applied Arts Collective is a boutique multidisciplinary studio operated by Emmanuela Albert and Jess Blaustein. With commitments to fine craft and sustainability, STUDIOOSS works along three registers: we help make other people’s ideas look amazing, we make our own whimsical objects from pop-up books to other treasures, and we use the off-cuts from the things we make for ongoing art experimentation and play.
Co-founders Emmanuela Albert and Jess Blaustein each moved to Singapore in 2015 from New York City where they lived and breathed design in different worlds—Emmanuela from graphic design and Jess from art and academia. When they met in Singapore, it was love at first sight, and they joined forces to create STUDIOOSS as a platform for collaboration with each other and with other artists and designers. Between them they have two husbands and a brood of five boys.
We make ethical design a baseline for our practice at STUDIOOSS. As a rule, we commit to sourcing sustainable materials for all of our editions and packaging. We also rigorously practice material reuse to minimise our ecological footprint, using the end-pieces and off-cuts from our in-house production of our OSS Editions for the design of STUDIOOSS packaging and for the making of future work.
Each year, STUDIOOSS gives 10% of profits from our OSS Editions to charitable organizations doing amazing work toward global literacy, gender equality, and environmental justice. The profits from our first editions went to Room to Read, a global organization transforming the lives of millions of children in low-income countries by focusing on literacy and gender equality in education.
In the beginnings STUDIOOSS lived in two places, New York City and Singapore. We said goodbye to the little red dot in 2020. Now we know New York as our base and our stomping ground.
